International Coworking Day | 9th August
Today we celebrate International Coworking Day.
Every year on August 9, we recognize the impact of the coworking movement and the fact that we are all part of something greater than ourselves. #InternationalCoworkingDay
What is coworking?
Coworking is when professionals from different companies share the same workspace. It’s a shared but independent working environment. Think writers, programmers, designers, and remote workers coming together to work, connect, and create.
Why it matters
Coworking brings more than just a desk. A typical day can start with breakfast together, include meditation or walk breaks, and end with new connections.
Benefits include:
- Increased productivity
- Boosted creativity
- Collaboration opportunities
- Greater flexibility
- A sense of belonging and purpose
- Cost-effective workspace for business owners
Today, more than one million people work in coworking spaces each year.
How to observe
Check out a coworking space near you. Many offer free access today.
You can also gather friends who work from home and share a space for the day.

A quick history
The idea started in 1995 with hackers in Berlin. It grew in 2005 when Brad Neuberg invited creators to work as a community. In 2010, Tony Bacigalupo proposed August 9th as the official day, marking 5 years since Neuberg’s first post. The date has been celebrated ever since.
